Junaid is a Manchester-based photographer from Pakistan. Photography is a huge passion and hobby of his, and one day dreams of becoming a pro!
How did you get started in photography?
I had always been keen on taking photos. While I was studying Maths at university, I decided to get a DSLR camera. It all just went from there as I started experimenting with what this piece of equipment can do. I started looking for any opportunity to develop my skills further. I got my first set of paid work, photographing student balls at university. More recently I have been venturing into fashion and portrait work.
What has been the highlight of your photography career so far?
I wouldn’t really pick out one thing as a highlight. I believe my rise in photography has been attributed to many small successes. It has been a gradual rise. A few things I can highlight are getting some decent paid work, being published in a magazine, getting the chance to photograph a wedding and shooting for a jewellery brand.

Tell us why this image is your favourite:
I feel this image takes you back to the basics of portrait photography. Due to the focus, your eyes wander on to the models face. That is when you feel like you are making a connection with the person in the photo. It leads you to admire the perfect hair and beautifully done lipstick. No clever Photoshop or lighting tricks are used. The plain background further removes any distractions, but does not create any boredom like a studio backdrop might do sometimes.
If you could photograph anyone in the world who would you shoot?
Hmmm… never really put much thought into that, but possibly Taylor Swift. I do admire her style.
If you could do a shoot anywhere in the world, where would you shoot?
Probably Dubai! I feel it has so much to offer and I don’t really have to worry about the weather, unlike England.
What can customers expect from a photoshoot with you?
I tend to make the photoshoot a more relaxed one where one can let their personalities out if they wish. I like to capture people with a more creative vision to make photos more interesting. The customers do not have to worry about the photos but only about how they truly want to present themselves.
What is your favourite thing about being on The Shoot?
I love how the shoot lets photographers really put out their best selves forward, without compromise and how much they are dedicated to helping everyone get the most out of the platform.
